    Market Hog Show & Sale

    • Show Date:  7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11th, 2011
    • Auction Date:  7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13th, 2011
    • OPEN HOG SALE
  • Rules

    • Hogs must have a negative, State Required Brucellosis and Rabies test in order to participate in the Walton County Fair.
    • Youth must reside in or be a member of Walton County 4-H or FFA.
    • Open to any Walton County resident under the age of 18.
    • All entries must be farrowed after April 1, 2011.
    • All entries must weigh between 200 and 260 lbs. on October 9, 2011, within 5 lbs plus or minus.
    • There will be two classes: Light (200 -230) lbs. and Heavy (231 - 260) lbs., or will be divided into two workable classes.
    • Any hog weighing over 265 lbs. will be sold at 265 weight. 
    • There will be a limit of two (2) entries per exhibitor.
    • Each entry will be checked and tagged by the Swine Superintendent, Vo-Ag teacher, or 4-H coordinator by August 1, 2011.
    • Entries must be brought to the Swine Barn on Sunday, October 9, between the hours of 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM
    • Care and feed must be furnished by the exhibitor during the week of the Fair.
    • Morning feeding will be provided by the Fair Association.  Please contact barn personnel upon arrival if your pig has special feed.  Leave it labeled clearly in the feed room.  Be sure your name is on your pen.
    • Entries must be made to the Swine Superintendent on August 1, 2011.
    • Swine Superintendent reserves the right to disqualify any animal that does not meet quality standards.
    • All hogs will be shown at owner’s risk.
    • All participants are encouraged to assist in obtaining his/her buyers or sponsors.
    • Any exhibitor cannot collect more than $200.00 per hog from sponsors or add-ons.
    • Any exhibitor that does not clean his/her pen, or have a designee do so, will be charged $5.00 per pen for each time cleaning has to be done.
    • Public walkways are to swept and pens clean by 4:45 each night of the fair.
    • There will be a barn inspection and exhibitors may be docked premiums or given extra premiums for cleanliness.
    • All animals entered must comply with health requirements of the Division of Animal Industry, State Department of Agriculture
    • Hog Show will be Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00 PM
    • Hog Sale will be Thursday, October 13 at 7:00 PM
    • Each participant must turn in a “Thank-you” letter for their buyer/sponsor to the Swine Department before receiving payment for their animal.
  • Ribbons, Premiums & Awards

    SWINE DIVISION SHOWMANSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

    •  Requirements: (JR., INT and  Sr. Divisions)
      • Animals must be prepared prior to entering arena.
      • Proper personal apparel should be worn in show arena at all times. If representing an organization or club, official dress preferred.
      • A show stick and a grooming brush should be in possession of show person while in show arena. Also a hurdle board should be available at all times.
    • PREMIUMS;
      • JR    SHOWMANSHIP:     8 - 10 YEARS
      • INT  SHOWMANSHIP:    11 - 13 YEARS
      • SR    SHOWMANSHIP:     14 - 18 YEARS
      • PREMIUMS WILL BE PAID IN EACH DIVISION FOR:
        • 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD PLACE

    JR.   DIVISION    lst, 2nd, 3rd place  (8-10 years)

    INT.   DIVISIION 1st,2nd,3rd place   (11-13 years) 

    SR .   DIVISION    1st,2nd,3rd place   (14-18 years)

    HOGS:
    Classifications & Awards

    • CLASS  I    200 - 230 lbs.  and  CLASS  II    231 - 260 lbs.

    PREMIUMS:   1ST --10TH PLACE

    GRAND CHAMPION / RESERVE CHAMPION:

    • Plaques will be awarded to Grand Champion and Reserve Champion.  Ribbons will be awarded to winners, first through tenth, including Grand and Reserve Champions.  The first place winner in each class will compete for Grand Champion, and the hog standing second to the Grand Champion in his class will compete for Reserve Champion.  All prize money will be mailed.

    YOUTH HOG SALE

    OPEN HOG SALE

    The sale will work like a normal sale, what the buyer bids he or she will pay.

    Any sponsorship money on a hog is separate.

    All sponsor money and forms are to be turned into the Walton County Fair.
