YOUTH BEEF SHOW

 Purpose:

  • To use the Breeding Beef Cattle Program as a tool in the total development and growth of youth in 4-H, FFA and Other Youth Groups.
  • To provide a learning experience in production agriculture.
  • To provide opportunities for demonstrating skills learned in selecting, producing, breeding, fitting and showing cattle.

    • Entry Deadline:  October 1, 2011.
    • Arrival Time:  October 15, 2011 9:00A.M. 12:00 P.M.
    • Release Time:  Immediately following show
    • Judging Begins:  October 15, 2011 1:00 P.M.
  • Rules

    • Cattle arriving at time other than stated above must have prior approval of the Livestock Coordinator
    • Early registration is required since space is limited.
    • $5.00 entry fee per animal for out of county participants.
    • Grooming space and holding areas are limited. All animals should be clipped and groomed prior to arrival. Tie-outs will be pre-assigned.
    • All animals must be broken to lead and in suitable condition for showing in order to compete for premiums.
    • The Walton County Fair will not be responsible for damage done by animals or injuries to animals.
    • Each exhibitor will be responsible for feeding and watering their cattle everyday as well as stall cleanup.
    • Exhibitors will provide their own feed, feed pans and buckets. Please have identification on each pan and container.
    • Exhibitors between the ages of 8-18 years from Walton, Holmes, Jackson, Okaloosa, & Washington Counties are eligible for participation.
    • Heifers and Bulls exhibited must be between the ages of 6-24 months.
    • Steers will all be shown in one class, with weight per day of age being taken into account by the judge.
    • Cattle may be purebred or crossbred.
    • Cattle will be shown in classes based on age.
    • Exhibitors may enter up to 5 animals with a max of 3 heifers, 1 steer, and 1 bull per exhibitor.
    • Exhibitor must own or lease an animal a minimum of 60 days prior to show.
    • Must have health certificate within 60 days & comply with Dept. of Agriculture regulations
    • Arrival and Release times must be as stated above or have approval of the Chairman.
  • Showmanship Contest

    • Jr. Showmanship
      Class I:         8- 10 years
    • Intermediate Showmanship
      Class II:        11-13 years
    • Sr. Showmanship
      Class III:       14-18 years

    Premiums to be awarded for 1st -10th Place.

    Additional premium money will be awarded as follows:

    • Champion & Reserve Champion will be selected from class winners.
